Every two minutes, more than two people lose their lives in road traffic incidents around the world. Behind every statistic is a family, a colleague, a community, and a future changed forever.
According to global road safety data, there were an estimated 1.19 million road traffic deaths recorded in 2021 alone. Even more concerning, the African region remains the only region worldwide to experience an increase in road traffic fatalities over the last decade, rising by 17% between 2010 and 2021.
At Olympus Power, we believe businesses have a responsibility to support meaningful initiatives that create lasting impact. That is why we are proud to support our charity partner, Transaid, throughout Transaid Month this May.
Supporting Long-Term Change Through Driver Training
Transaid works across sub-Saharan Africa to improve road safety through practical, partner-led programmes focused on driver training, education, and behavioural change.
Rather than applying short-term solutions, Transaid collaborates directly with governments, training providers, and transport organisations to improve long-term standards across the transport sector.
Their work includes promoting:
- Safer driver behaviour
- Higher quality truck, bus, and motorcycle training
- Sustainable improvements to national training standards
- Knowledge sharing between regional and international transport professionals
Current long-term programmes are active across:
- Ghana
- Kenya
- Tanzania
- Uganda
- Zambia
By improving training standards and sharing knowledge across borders, Transaid is helping create safer roads, stronger transport systems, and more resilient communities.
Why This Matters
Transport is essential to economic growth, healthcare access, education, and supply chains across the world. Yet without proper driver training and road safety standards, transport networks can also become a major source of preventable tragedy.
As a business operating within infrastructure and energy sectors, we recognise how closely connected transport, logistics, and sustainability truly are. Supporting organisations like Transaid is part of a wider commitment to responsible industry and positive social impact.
