Powering the South Devon Chilli Farm

green energy news / 18th Jul 2024

Olympus Power has worked with the ‘hot-stuff’ South Devon Chilli Farm – designing and installing a 100-panel solar system to power this local company.

They have been delighted with the result – low cost and sustainable energy for the business that grows and sells chillis as well as preserves and sauces.

Director Amrit Madhoo explained why they decided on solar power and how the system is performing for them:

“We try to operate as sustainably as possible, so investment in solar is allowing us to both reduce our energy running costs and our carbon footprint. The results thus far have been good, and at peak generation, together with our green tariff from the grid, we’re able to operate on 100% renewable electricity.

Spring figures for the system show power generation higher than predicted, with new numbers forecasting a saving of approximately 9.7 tonnes of CO2 a year.

Installing solar on their unused roof at their 10-acre site in the South Hams is the latest development at this forward-thinking company, who have been expanding their range of products and crops for more than 20 years.
