clean power for manufacturing

Hi-tech manufacturers Gooch & Housego (G&H) serve the key markets of areospace, telecoms and life sciences. We installed rooftop solar at their Torquay manufacturing site, saving £1.2m over 25 years.

  • 90% of power used on site
  • Commercial rooftop solar design and install
  • Saving more than a £1m in 25 years
  • System paid for itself in five years

Embracing solar

G&H products help to bring environmental and social benefits in many markets, with their technologies supporting the generation of clean, renewable energy and improved energy efficiency. They have a clear sustainability strategy and a net zero road map.

For G&H, installing solar on the roof of its Torquay manufacturing site was an easy decision. “Any business seriously interested in their profitability and sustainability should embrace solar,” said Steve Rider, the firm’s operations director.

“Over 25 years, on today’s energy prices, we are going to save in excess of £1.2m on power.  Reinvested in the business this saving benefits us, our staff, customers and the wider community.”

G&H’s roof-mounted solar system will pay for itself within five years, and after that the savings can be used to expand and invest back into the business. Up to 90% of the power produced will be used on the site, which makes fibre optic products and uses large amounts of power.

G&H’s strategy is to use renewables wherever they can be fitted. See the Olympus Power solar project at their HQ in Ilminster.

Over the renewable power system’s predicted 25-year lifespan, it will save 3702 tonnes of C02, contributing to the company’s sustainability strategy and net zero goals.
